Wireless or the good ol' cable

I am frequently asked what is the best, Cable or Wireless?

Call me old school but I always fall back to cable. I don't like what I can't see. But really what is the difference?

Wireless is pretty much taking over. Being fully connected anywhere at anytime is most certainly the way forward and in the last 7 years or so things have most certainly improved. Not so long ago a wireless network was close to a novelty and was somewhat expensive and even limited. Today even your basic home user ADSL router gives you the ability to set up a small wireless network and with blue tooth and other mobile technology even more can get done and more added to your network.

The most basic of routers will not perhaps offer the highest speed but it will nonetheless connect all the parts which for many small users is more than enough.

Cables are messy and can break, ok a router can break and then you are kind of stuck. Even for a cabled network there is a hardware requirement.

Based in Cape Town one of the best companies I have found for networking is a small and growing company called eCables. Fabian Carelse over the years has become a very trusted source for any cabling needs large or small. I am no expert on networks I will admit but for the best advice I would recommend contacting Fabian and his team.

Remember for your business your network is essential. You can have the latest and greatest hardware and software but without the network all of this is pointless. A well planned, managed and support network is an investment you will never forget!
